And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not,

for Herod bkfeared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he blheard him gladly.

Καὶ γενομένης ἡμέρας εὐκαίρου ὅτε Ἡρῴδης τοῖς γενεσίοις αὐτοῦ δεῖπνον

and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.
Mark 6:29
καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἦλθον καὶ ἦραν τὸ πτῶμα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔθηκαν αὐτὸ ἐν μνημείῳ.

When his cgdisciples heard of it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.

ἀπόλυσον αὐτούς, ἵνα ἀπελθόντες εἰς τοὺς κύκλῳ ἀγροὺς καὶ κώμας ἀγοράσωσιν ἑαυτοῖς

czSend them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”

But he answered them, db“You give them something to eat.” And dcthey said to him, dd“Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii
A  denarius was a day’s wage for a laborer

And they all ate and were satisfied.

The same Greek word can mean either soul or  life, depending on the context; twice in this verse and once in verse 36 and once in verse 37
will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake nmand the gospel’s will save it.

Mark 9:8
καὶ ἐξάπινα περιβλεψάμενοι οὐκέτι οὐδένα εἶδον

Mark 9:10
καὶ τὸν λόγον ἐκράτησαν πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς συζητοῦντες τί ἐστιν τὸ ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῆναι.
pgSo they kept the matter to themselves, phquestioning what this rising from the dead might mean.
Mark 9:11
καὶ ἐπηρώτων αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Ὅτι λέγουσιν οἱ γραμματεῖς ὅτι Ἠλίαν δεῖ ἐλθεῖν πρῶτον;
And they asked him, “Why do the scribes say pithat first Elijah must come?”
Mark 9:12
δὲ

ἔφη αὐτοῖς· Ἠλίας μὲν ἐλθὼν πρῶτον

ἐξουδενηθῇ;

And he said to them, This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.”

ὁδῷ διελογίζεσθε;
And rsthey came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house rthe asked them, What were you discussing on the way?”

But they kept silent, for on the way ruthey had argued with one another about who was the greatest.

καὶ καθίσας ἐφώνησεν τοὺς δώδεκα καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Εἴ τις θέλει πρῶτος εἶναι ἔσται πάντων ἔσχατος καὶ πάντων διάκονος.
And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, rv“If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”
Mark 9:36
καὶ λαβὼν παιδίον ἔστησεν αὐτὸ ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐναγκαλισάμενος αὐτὸ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς·
And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and rwtaking him in his arms, he said to them,

Ὃς

Mark 9:39
δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· Μὴ κωλύετε αὐτόν, οὐδεὶς γάρ ἐστιν ὃς ποιήσει δύναμιν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου καὶ δυνήσεται ταχὺ κακολογῆσαί με·
But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me.
Mark 9:40
ὃς γὰρ οὐκ ἔστιν καθ᾽

skFor the one who is not against us is for us.

swit would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.

Mark 9:45
καὶ ἐὰν πούς σου σκανδαλίζῃ σε, ἀπόκοψον αὐτόν· καλόν ἐστίν

σε εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν ζωὴν χωλὸν τοὺς δύο πόδας ἔχοντα βληθῆναι εἰς τὴν

Mark 9:47
καὶ ἐὰν ὀφθαλμός σου σκανδαλίζῃ σε, ἔκβαλε αὐτόν· καλόν

ὅπου σκώληξ αὐτῶν οὐ τελευτᾷ καὶ τὸ πῦρ οὐ σβέννυται.

where tptheir worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’
Mark 9:49
Πᾶς γὰρ πυρὶ
 ἁλισθήσεται = WH NA/NIV: || ἁλισθήσεται καὶ πᾶσα θυσία ἁλὶ ἁλισθήσεται = Treg RP
ἁλισθήσεται.
For everyone will be salted with fire.
Some manuscripts add and every sacrifice will be salted with salt
Mark 9:50
καλὸν τὸ ἅλας· ἐὰν δὲ τὸ ἅλας ἄναλον γένηται, ἐν τίνι αὐτὸ ἀρτύσετε; ἔχετε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς

ἅλα, καὶ εἰρηνεύετε ἐν ἀλλήλοις.



ttSalt is good, tubut if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? tvHave salt in yourselves, and twbe at peace with one another.”
